Chinese Designer's 3D Printed Clothing is Nominated for The International Innovation Award
China 3D Printing Network July 26th, Graduate Fashion Week is usually held in London on the first weekend of June. This year's Graduate Fashion Week (GFW) has to be canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19. Instead, the charity found a new way to support the fashion graduate program as the organizers decided to introduce a new series of digital awards covering 22 categories from children’s clothing and fashion marketing to accessories and textiles. Ensure that students still have the opportunity to promote their work.
The finalist for the Material Innovation Award is Xie Zimeng from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in Chongqing, China. In exploring the semi-world world of plastic pollution, deforestation and carbon emission consumption, she explored 3D printing technology, and her work made use of 3D printing technology. In a speech entitled "The Cult of Light and Shadow", the designer combined 3D printing and hollow projection lamps to form a circuit that can illuminate a large area, allowing the audience to immediately enter the self-advanced dark "digital punk" world . In particular, it shows how her creative design integrates technology and light into a beautiful and elegant female silhouette.

"My design concept is mainly based on the prospect of the future world. In the future, due to various factors, people will have an irreversible impact on the earth. Among thousands of hypotheses, my design aims to form a "polar night", That is, the phenomenon caused by environmental pollution in the future. At that time, people's needs for light must be satisfied first. In the future dark world, darkness will make people pay more attention to light and shadow, and gradually form a unique aesthetic and demand for light and shadow."

Like many people before, Xie Zimeng focuses on exploring fashion beyond the scope of traditional textiles and handicrafts, which gives her disruptive technology. After creating the design, she built a 3D model that was used to repeatedly test the light source to draw the figure that was finally hollowed out on the final printed model. The designer chose a photosensitive resin material for 3D printing, and then continued to compete for the GFW award, and then hollowed out and polished it with an electric drill pen. Followed by white matte and silver chrome spray paint to increase the texture, and finally install the LED light source and power controller to form a color slow flash effect.

Zimeng suggested: "In such a world, our need for clothing is not only to cover the body and keep warm, but also to keep the clothing warm. It is especially important to make the clothing a light source that can be illuminated. The appearance of light and shadow on clothing has become A new aesthetic standard. In terms of expression, I chose a combination of 3D printing and hollow lights to highlight the sense of future and technology."
Inspired by the future network design of neon cities that rely on long-lasting technology to deal with the effects of the permanent night sky, Xie Zimeng created bodysuits, supplemented by a set of radiant color light-powered "wings" and protective covers, neck coverings and legs set. After completion, the work will be submitted to GFW, and then will be exhibited in the June Art Tour Exhibition at the Chongqing Art Market of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in Longfor'U' City Paradise Walk, University Town of China Academy of Art; and Chongqing Art Market on the WeChat platform The newly launched Cloud Exhibition Hall gives students the opportunity to showcase all their works.

In an interview, Xie Zimeng said that she is very interested in studying the future and functional direction of fashion, especially through 3D printing technology. She describes her creation as more accessories concepts, suggesting that they may not be comfortable enough to wear, but she is already studying future aesthetic needs to make some upgrades and improvements. In addition, as part of her specific vision, she outlined her punk style, with a sense of avant-garde female warriors living in the future society, who are difficult to survive in the downturn and rely heavily on the rapid development of technology.

Over the years, designers have been using technological innovation to explore future fashion trends and show their inspiration. In particular, 3D printing has become an excellent tool for unconventional thinkers to surpass the limitations of traditional design, get rid of industry restrictions and clothing aesthetic standards, and create unique, bold and powerful single products. The need to express her vision has prompted imaginative designers to combine 3D printing with light to create eye-catching suits that give a powerful illustration of the future of our world. After all, the most important thing in her work is the impact of our actions on the environment and the importance of taking care of the earth's limited resources to avoid her facing the futuristic science fiction society living in the "eternal night".
